WCAG 2.1 Level AA

Meletema is designed and tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA. We audit new components against the standard before they ship and run automated checks on every release. The platform has not been externally certified; we publish this statement so customers and reviewers can verify our claims directly.

Built-in support

• Keyboard navigation. Every action — flipping cards, choosing multiple-choice answers, advancing the queue, opening settings — is reachable by Tab, Shift+Tab, Space, Enter, and arrow keys. The deck player binds Space to flip the active card and Enter / Right to advance.
• Screen reader semantics. Headings, landmarks, lists, buttons, and form controls use semantic HTML. Interactive controls expose accessible names; live regions announce result feedback during play.
• Read-aloud. The player includes a built-in Read Aloud toggle that uses the browser's Speech Synthesis API to speak prompts and answers, with a voice picker for non-default languages.
• Color contrast. Text, icons, and interactive borders meet or exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio. Organization-selectable player themes are pre-vetted for contrast against both light and dark backgrounds.
• Dark mode. Every page respects the user's system preference and an explicit Light / Dark / System override is available inside the player.
• Zoom and reflow. Layouts support 200% browser zoom and 400% text-only zoom without horizontal scrolling or loss of function on typical viewport widths.
• Visible focus. Every focusable element renders a visible focus ring that stays distinct in both light and dark modes.
• Reduced motion. The card flip and transition animations are short, non-essential, and respect prefers-reduced-motion at the system level.

Where we still have work

• Read-aloud quality depends on the voices installed in the user's browser and OS. We do not bundle our own voice synthesis.
• Charts on the deck report and completion screens are rendered as inline SVG without alternative text descriptions. We plan to add textual summaries.
• Card content (prompts, answers, explanations) is authored by instructors. We do not enforce alt text on author-provided images in cards. Instructors are responsible for accessibility of their own content.
