Glossary

Quick reference for the vocabulary used across Meletema and these docs.

Decks and cards

  • Deck — A named set of flashcards on one topic. Lives inside an organization.
  • Card — A prompt, answer, and optional explanation.
  • Prompt — The question or term shown to the student.
  • Answer — The correct response.
  • Explanation — Extra context shown after the student answers. Collapsed by default until you've used it.
  • Folder — A user-defined container for organizing decks inside an organization.
  • Tag — A free-form label for cross-cutting categorization (e.g. bio-mid-term).

Play

  • Attempt — One play-through of a deck by one student. Has a score (0–100) and a started_at / completed_at timestamp.
  • Activity type — A way to present a card: multiple choice, self-assess, matching. Configurable per deck.
  • Card order — Whether cards appear in the order you defined or randomized for each play.

Performance

  • Avg attempt score — Average of Attempt.score across completed plays. Immediate, easy to interpret.
  • Mastery score — A spaced-repetition signal stored per (card, student). Grows slowly across multiple correct answers.
  • Mastery progress — Average mastery score across all the cards in your decks. The dashboard's long-term retention number.
  • Difficulty — On the per-deck report, the percent of student responses on a card that were wrong. Sorted descending to surface tough cards.

LMS / LTI

  • LTI — Learning Tools Interoperability. The standard your LMS uses to launch external apps like Meletema.
  • LTI 1.1 / LTI 1.3 — Two protocol versions. 1.3 is modern and uses OAuth 2.0 / JWT; 1.1 is legacy and uses OAuth 1.0a + a consumer key/secret pair.
  • Deep linking — An LMS feature that lets you pick a specific deck while creating an LMS assignment.
  • Grade passback — Reporting a student's final score back to the LMS gradebook. AGS for 1.3, Basic Outcomes for 1.1.
  • Section — A class in your LMS that has been linked to a specific deck. Auto-created on first launch.
  • Dynamic registration — A one-click LTI 1.3 setup flow that pastes a URL into your LMS and the rest happens automatically.

Roles and billing

  • Organization — Your team in Meletema. Owns the decks, members, sections, and billing.
  • Member rolesadmin (billing + members + LMS) and instructor (decks + sections).
  • Plan — A subscription tier with three feature flags: LTI 1.1, LTI 1.3, and grade passback.
  • Trial — A free period at the start of a paid plan. Length is configured per plan; no credit card required to start.
