LMS Integration (LTI)

Deep linking a deck

Deep linking a deck

Deep linking is the LTI 1.3 feature that lets you pick a specific deck from inside the LMS assignment editor. The LMS handles the navigation; Meletema handles the deck picker.

In the LMS

The flow varies a little by LMS, but the pattern is the same:

  1. Create a new assignment, quiz, or "external tool" item.
  2. Choose Meletema as the external tool.
  3. Click the "Select content" / "Find an external resource" button.
  4. The LMS opens Meletema in a popup or new window.

In Meletema

You land on a deck-picker view that lists every deck in any organization you belong to.

  • Search by deck title in the search field at the top.
  • Toggle the Send grades back to my LMS switch above the deck list. Defaults to ON. Turn it off for ungraded practice decks.
  • Click a deck to pick it.

The popup closes and the LMS now has the deck linked to that assignment.

What happens for students

When a student opens that assignment in the LMS:

  1. They click into the assignment.
  2. The LMS launches Meletema in an embedded or popup window.
  3. Meletema silently:
    • Creates or matches their account from the LTI identity.
    • Enrolls them in the Section that represents that LMS course.
    • Loads the play view for the linked deck.
  4. The student plays the deck.
  5. When they finish, Meletema posts the score back to the LMS gradebook.

The first time a section is launched, Meletema auto-creates a Section record. You can see all sections under Your org → Sections.

If you forgot to deep-link

If a student launches into an assignment that no deck has been linked to, they'll see a "Not configured yet" page. For LTI 1.1 (which has no deep linking), instructors get a deck picker on first launch instead.
